Utah's 1st
Public Via Ferrata

The Ashley Gorge Via Ferrata (AGVF) in Vernal is Utah's first public via ferrata and the longest in the United States, offering a "hard-iron" climbing experience with steel rungs, cables, and bridges. Located near Ashley Gorge, it underwent a soft opening in 2025, with a grand opening scheduled for May 2026.

  • Location & Access: Situated in Ashley Gorge, near Vernal, UT, 3 hours East of Salt Lake City, Utah. It is accessible via the parking lot and hike down to the access point of the via ferrate. You can choose to self guide or use one of our licensed and permitted guides.

  • Features: The course includes exposed rock face climbs and cable bridges suitable for beginners and experienced climbers.

  • Operating Status: The site is generally open March 1st to November 1st yearly, weather permitting. The season may be extended or shortened depending on weather. Please check the website and social media for updated schedules and closures. 

  • Project Background: Funding for the project was secured through Access Utah and  Outdoor Recreation grants. Developed on Uintah County property located in the Ashley Gorge to promote outdoor recreation.
